 love me some pull-down maps!
room #1: design*sponge.
room #2: another design*sponge find. owner erin explains : "The pull down map is from an old school over in the Mississippi Delta that was being torn down. I was able to get about seven maps that day when they sold everything in the school."  cool!  also love how well the green in the chairs looks underneath. [via]

even.... bathrooms!
from apartment therapy [via]
a tad overwhelming but still cool!  from decor medley [via]

so the question remains, do you love maps in design as much as i?

~ zooey deschanel tweets ~
i don't do the whole twitter-thing, but i'm soo glad jezebel does, or else i would've missed this gem of a tweet by my girl zooey d :)

and....

last, but not least - i started a tumblr !
the main reason i did this is because i started developing a pretty elaborate dream where i open my own quirky little boutique, selling equal parts stationary, art, books, accessories, and maybe a sprinkling of clothes.  who knows if this dream will ever come to fruition, who knows if it will stay a serious aspiration for much longer... but until the day it dies down, i have started a tumblr to keep track of the types of items i'd like to sell.
hop over & take a look if you want, but i won't be offended if you don't :)
it probably only makes sense to me anyways!  (and there's a lot of overlap between the pretty things blog & the dream.plan.act tumblr)

have a great weekend all!

i want: business cards from tiny prints

[note: this is not my contact info]

and guess what...
i got them!
more than i wanted to spend but i finally realized that being overly frugal is just not cutting it.  i need business cards and i don't have any for my current job.  time to suck it up and buy some!!  and really, i couldn't be happier with my choice.

buy your own here
thanks to dress, design & decor for introducing me to this sweet shop

do you have any fave business card companies to pass my way?

i only got a small sampling of these and am very very open to new suggestions!
thanks :)

i want: royal tenenbaums pencils

remember when i stumbled across those awesome rushmore-themed pencils?  well now there are royal tenenbaums pencils!

my only gripe?  i want more!
i mean, it is one of my top-ten fave movies...

buy here

p.s. there's also some awesome "pick flick" pencils from election. heck yes!
p.p.s.  i think it's time for a wes anderson movie marathon!  perfect for this blizzard-y day.

reblog: arctic kayaking

~ found at express-o ~

this is where people are kayaking in greenland...
i may think this is the craziest idea ever, but i must admit it's breathtakingly beautiful
and what a unique experience!

not exactly my cup of tea, but this would be such a crazy adventure...
what do you think?

i want: pink recipe box

side note ~ i think my next wedding/bicycle/photography post will highlight brides and grooms riding on tandem bikes!  :)

i want: betsey johnson ombre gown

fun fact about me: i run a prom store.  my technical title is sales and marketing lead, and when the store is open i am the co-manager.
as a result, my life is prom.
i'm in my 20's and my life is prom.
but so it goes...
ANYWAYS, the point of that personal digression is this: try as i might, i can't escape prom.  even in my free time when i am blogging and surfing the blogosphere for beautiful inspiration to get me through the stress of my job... my life is still prom.
case in point is this dress by betsey johnson, found when cruising the killer clearance on her site ::

 why i love this dress:
- sweetheart neckline. aka my go-to neckline.
- boning in the bodice. crazy flattering.
- gorgeous sash & bow.
- 100% silk.  how luxe!
- OMBRE.  gorge.

a gown like this would go for several hundred in prom boutiques.  minimum $300, more likely mid-400's.  so wanna know the price tag?
$136
i kid you not!
originally $495, it is on clearance & then gets another 60% off!  man oh man do i wish i were going to prom...

p.s. in case you didn't know [& i don't know how you would know, unless you are 17 or also in the prom biz] ombre is totally in for prom 2011.  fyi.  meaning if i was 17 & bought this steal of a dress, i'd be totally in.  yup.

poem: stopping by woods on a snowing evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep

Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

{let's all re-read that last stanza aloud. soo melodic. you can't help but be captivated...}

sweet & chic for a child's room!
perfect.

idea: framed fabric

sweet & simple ~ i absolutely love this.

what's best is that the framed fabric swatches fit in with the beautiful fabric used throughout the room.
